Finalissima

The CONMEBOL UEFA Cup of Champions was played in 1985 and 1993. UEFA and CONMEBOL revived it in 2022 as the Finalissima, and Argentina beat Italy 3 to 0 at Wembley. It is one of Messi's four senior trophies with Argentina. The 2026 edition against Spain was cancelled; CONMEBOL declared Argentina the winners, UEFA did not recognise the result, and it is not counted here.

Negreira case

Between 2001 and 2018 Barcelona paid about €7.3m to companies owned by Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, then vice president of the Spanish referees' committee, and his son. A Barcelona court is investigating the club for sporting corruption, with a trial expected in 2027, and UEFA is reviewing the case. Barcelona deny wrongdoing and no ruling has been made. Messi played for Barcelona from 2004 to 2021.
